sound like a broken (?) css path.
how do you include your design (cascading style sheets) and so on?

      regards,

I stupidly deleted some files in Filezilla on the remote server, and now can’t retrieve them. I spoke to my webspace provider 1and1.co.uk and they said they can backup to 26/04/11 (yesterday) so I am hoping it will be put back to normal, has anyone ever had this done?

Yeah, go ahead and restore your backup, the worst that will happen is that you lose any work you’ve done since yesterday. They should be able to do a full restore including your mySQL database (that’s where your data is stored, to answer your question above) and everything should go back to normal.

If the site was around long enough, archive.org might have a copy, from which you can get things like lost style sheets and contents.

Matt, why do it the hard way when the webhost has a backup from yesterday?

Incidentally, distant_smile, if it’s any consolation, you appear to have installed your redirect correctly. It’s just that it’s now redirecting to blank pages, but the blank pages it’s redirecting to are at the right URLs. You might save a copy of your .htaccess before you restore the backup so that you can put it back the way it is now.

@esnyder : You’re absolutely right - that’s the better way to go. I was just trying to point out another avenue that can be quicker in some cases. But for an in-development site, it would not likely be very up-to-date, if archive.org even had a backup.

                  Your point is well taken!

Sorry for starting you down a dangerous path. Let us know how the restore goes and if you have further problems, I’ll be happy to help.

Oh, one more thing -- you’d better set the site to return 503 until it’s restored. If Google crawls it like this, it could be trouble. Here’s a reference on how to do that:
