Lemonstand is hands down - been with it since Alpha and have a few sites out there. It is a breeze to work with and the best Admin UI out there...

Revo UI designers should take a look wink

I’m surprised no one has yet mentioned Visioncart, the new ecommerce extra being developed for MODx. I haven’t done a production site with it yet, myself, but I have been putting the current release through its paces, designing a site meant for release in the next few months. So far I like it a lot. It stays very faithful to the whole MODx thing, being extremely easy and transparent to template. If I were you, I would at least try it before moving away from MODx for ecommerce.

We are keeping an eye on it and would love to use it, but for today, it doesn’t offer what LemonStand does out of the box and we need sites up now. From what we’ve seen though, in the early states of VisionCart, it will be an option and one that we will embrace.

Magento has more features then any other open source platform as far as I know. All those things you need with a large online shop such as localised taxes, exchange rates, configurable products etc etc. For the right project Magento is great. Templating, theming and development is easy and extremely flexible once you understand it.

Magento excels at what it does but it is extremely overkill and time consuming for small sites with minimal products and variations. I think this is where Magento gets its bad reputation from. Magento will save you a ton of hours and headaches on large complex shops.

I agree on Gibbs. I have build a couple of Magento sites, but there are some things about Magento which can be improved if you ask me.

There is no product image management, there is for the product content fields/description but not for the product images straingly. Not for small webshops, Custom fields are quite hard to implement because of it's a pritty complex system. It's a bit slow, needs a quick server with lots MEM etc. I don't like the product CSV export / import. Styling is time comsuming. Further more its the best (opensource) out there I know of.

The best is picking a theme you like, buy this and restyle it. Styling takes a lot of time, but there is allot ready to go. [ed. note: fourroses666 last edited this post 13 years, 2 months ago.]
Evolution user, I like the back-end speed and simplicity smiley

I would say http://www.uniecommerce.com/ would the best ecommerce platform to start an online store instatly. The unique thing you can find here is, it combines group deals and online store with ecommerce software.

I would suggest people to go with multi vendor shopping cart script. It would be best way to earn business profit. Uni-eMerchant provides all in one merchant platform.

Check out the link to know more on multi vendor shopping cart,
