    My client has a news page, and now needs a brief part of each of the news with the date, to go into sidebar on each page. I think I am looking for ditto, but I am not sure how to do this, and I don’t know much about ditto. So could someone please help me with this? Thanks in advance.

      Sure sounds like a job for Ditto. Notes on Pogwatch should help get you started. The sidebar on the home page of the site uses this Ditto call and tpl chunk to display title, date and content of child documents of the home page:
      [[Ditto? &parents=`1` &orderBy=`menuindex ASC` &tpl=`home.tickle` ]]

      ------------------- home.tickle chunk ----------------------
      <div class="tickle">
      <div class="tickleDate">[+pkDate:dateIf=`%d %b %y`+]</div>
      <h4>[+title+]</h4>
      [+content+]
      </div>
