I don’t see a way to edit or add tables using tinymce. Is there a setting that needs to be changed for this? In order for my end users to like modx, table editing is needed.

Here is how to make adding and editing tables possible in tinymce. This assumes you have tinymce installed.
1. Go to System Settings
2. In the drop down where is shows core, click ont he down arrow icon and choose tinymce
3. On the Custom Plugins setting double click on the value entry to go into edit mode
4. Go to the end of the value and add ",table" (without quotes)
5. Click in an empty area to save
6. Add the value table to tiny.custom_buttons3 to put the table editing icon in a separate row or add ,table to tiny.custom_buttons1 or tiny.custom_buttons2 to add to one of the current rows.
7. Click in an empty area to save
You should now see an icon that allows you to add or edit current table properties.
