Yahoo doesn’t exist, it’s powered by Bing. Bing apparently is able to crawl your current URLs, but is not doing so for much of the site, which is odd. Submitting a sitemap to Bing might help. If it doesn’t, you might consider switching over to a friendly URL scheme for the sake of Bing rather than Google.
As for whether grammar will get you penalized by Google, your guess is as good as anyone else’s at this point. Google has just launched a new algo called "Panda" which has everyone confused, and nobody knows exactly how it works. Grammar is probably one of the hundreds of factors Google considers. Writing in proper English is probably a good idea. However, whether this is affecting your ranking or not -- well, really you’re the only one who can find that out, try correcting some of the grammar and see if your rankings improve.
Edit to add: just to be pedantic, there is a difference between being "penalized" and just not ranking well. Penalties apply when the algorithm detects a breach of Google webmaster guidelines, such as hidden text. I seriously doubt there is an actual penalty for bad grammar. However, bad grammar might cause you to rank lower than you would otherwise. This would not reflect an actual penalty, but rather indicate that Google considers content written with proper grammar to be of higher quality, which they probably do.
Thanks esnyder. It’s funny someone else mentioned to me about using Friendly URLs as you suggested. I am at a bit of a crossroads as I would like to but I have around 500 pages at present and am unsure of the ramifications. For instance, will I need 301 redirects from my old page addresses to the new ones, or will this be corrected the next time Google/Bing, etc, crawl my site?
Thanks for all the help its very much appreciated

Hmmm... I’m getting a 403 error on your site now... is that intentional? If not, better rename your .htaccess back to ht.access and we can talk about it with your site up.
