Hi everyone,
I’ve had an idea for a MODX project; inspired by the
CSS Zen Garden and
a comment Susan said the other day. Basically the CSS Zen Garden is a way to show the power of CSS; there’s one master HTML template and hundreds of alternative CSS layouts (
view the submissions here); each completely different from another.
One thing which clients, other developers and designers always point out is how easy it is to build templates in MODX, especially once they "get" Template Variables and chunks. Unlike some other CMSes, MODX never imposes any restrictions on how your pages should look; this alone is such an awesome selling point, I think a project like this would really help bring more designers to MODX.
Another couple of things the CSS Zen Garden demonstrates is how much control you get over a web page with CSS alone, some neat tricks and hacks CSS can do and it also serves as a great inspirational resource. A MODX Zen Garden could fill a similar gap, demonstrating how awesome MODX is for designing, layout and the amount of control you get when building templates.
With a MODX Zen Garden, what key MODX features do you think should be demonstrated? - I know for sure a standard HTML template would be there, just like the CSS Zen Garden; but what else?
- Perhaps when submitting a design you get to choose two Template Variables; which the designer can use to modify the page in any way he chooses, to demonstrate the power of TVs?
- Maybe a few custom chunks, which again, the designer can choose the content?
- Maybe some sort of dynamic content?
- Maybe a dynamic image carousel?
Overall the rules would be the same for everyone, with a set selection of variables which would really show what MODX can do for designers - I’m pretty keen to build this, but I want to get it right, so let me know your thoughts.
