    Hi Everyone,

I’m trying to install extras / packages.
    I click "System" => "Package Management" => "Add New Packages" => "Next" => "modxcms.com" => "Next" =>
=> Ditto => "Download". The "Download" button grays out, but NOTHING ELSE HAPPENS!

Alternatively, if I click "System" => "Package Management" => "Download Extras" => "Select Packages to Download" =>
=> Ditto => "Download". The "Download" button grays out, but NOTHING ELSE HAPPENS!

Anyone know how to fix this one?
      Best regards,
      Mike

      1. Change the provider URL to http://rest.modx.com/extras/
      2. If you have errors in core/cache/logs/error.log, post them here.
      3. Make sure cURL is installed and properly configured.

Shawn, Thanks for responding..... has anyone said that you’re good at this?

        1. Something is not right. In my browser if I enter the URL of "http://rest.modx.com/extras/" then the following error message is shown: "The page you were looking for doesn’t exist. You may have mistyped the address or the page may have moved."

        2. If, in my browser, I enter the URL of "http://modx.com/extras/" then I do get to see an actual web page with a list of extras I can install. However, MODx refuses to accept this URL for a "provider".

        3. If, as to the provider, I enter the URL of "http://rest.modx.com/extras/", then there are no error messages in "system reports". However, this is still NOT a URL where my MODx code is willing to download from! The error message I get in my "Package Retriever" window is the following: "Provider Not Specified" (when I for sure that I did specify "http://rest.modx.com/extras/"!)

        3. There aren’t any error messages in core/cache/logs/error.log .

        4. There are no error messages in system reports => error log.

        5. There are error messages in core/cache/logs/install.config.2011-04-08T18:30:37, but they seem to be related to this new MODx installation only.

        6. Why would I or any one else obliged to install cURL? Just because somebody reorganized the modxcms.com site?

        7. I wonder if everyone is going through this, or am I the only one? One basic problem is, you or I cannot make substantial changes without affecting the whole community. And the modxcms.com site is (or appears to be) too different now. I can barely recognize it. Too many URLS have been changed, and there are no page redirects. I sincerely hope there will be no additional changes (during the next scheduled downtime in the early morning hours of 4/9/2011).

        8. In the meantime what are we supposed to do? Hold all new installations? The issue is, up to one half my site (and other people’s sites) will stop working if the downloading of the extras is an issue!
          Best regards,
          Mike

You need to install and enable cURL.

You need to install and enable cURL.
            1. Manually I had to change the URL to http://rest.modx.com/extras/... why manually?
            2. No, I didn’t have errors in core/cache/logs/error.log.
            3. I made sure cURL was installed and properly configured... but that was never an issue.
            4. The real issue was a paranoid hosting company with a large number of security rules that prevented pretty much everything.
            5. However, when I asked them nicely, they relaxed a some of their strict rules,
and acted like they sacrificed safety (just for me),
and did a big favor (just for me).

              Best regards,
              Mike
