I’m developing my site in MODx. There is a registration form I’ve built with eForm. The submitted information is captured in the database. I have a request from the client to create a custom report of this information. It will be rather simple, just an outputting of data.
I know I could write a PHP script then hack the default manager template linking to it. What would be the "proper" way to create this custom report add-on? A plugin? A module? Where can I find information on how to do what you suggest?

I suggest you use a custom module.
Modules are Manager only access and run PHP code, ideal for extracting and displaying your DB data.
Download and look at a couple of existing modules to see how they work.
