This appears to be an acceptable solution:

If user clicks on parent link it just refreshes/calls the current page. Child links work as normal and call their respective page.

http://www.kunane.com/modx/wayfinder-nested-accordion.html#jfab1e7fb8 where by the parent is automatically disabled. Alter the css to float the li’s left maybe if you want a horizontal menu. It’s a v useful accordion menu. For modx revo use the double square bracket syntax and remove the rightmost + in the chunk syntax
