MODx adding around snippet calls and creating bad XHTML markup

Hi,

Is there anyway to remove MODx for auto adding <p> </p> tags around snippet calls when they are made within the content document editor? I have tried removing them in the HTML viewer - but once deleted they are replaced! This adding of <p> tags around snippet calls (such as wayfinder and ditto) creates bad markup language and fails when validated against W3C standards... Is the only way to add the call into the template?? Surely not..
