What I need to do is create a link on the site home page to create a new "profile page" which uses the "profile" template.
    The page hierarchy is..
    - Gallery
    -- Profile 1
    -- profile 2

Right now my link creates a page in the right place (below Profile 2) but it uses the "gallery" template since this is a child of that document.

Can I use managermanager to set the template? Can I modify my link to set it?

      maybe automaticTpl can help: http://modxcms.com/extras/package/?package=34

I’m not sure how you create a manager page from the home page but maybe you can find your inspiration in this plugin.

I guess to fix this you just create an unpublished container with the right template. Then when you add a new doc under this one it will assume the right template and not really effect anything else I could see.

Just remember to change the &parents parameter in the Ditto call to the children to the new parent container and you should be good to go.

automaticTpl is also a good tool for this, but if all you want is to set this up for one section then the unpublished parent may be less effort and work just as well.

Can’t you specify the template at document creation?
If you’re using some kind of APIs to create a document from the frontend you should be able to set up the template. If not maybe you can use modx events. Like in automaticTpl.
