Hi, I’ve seen this issue mentioned before, but I’m having a lot of trouble batch editing documents through the Doc Manager module.

I have tried to do this on various occasions, and not only does it hardly ever work, but often the current properties in the documents I was trying to update get deleted!

I tried both with and without using the "Ignore these template variables" field, but to no avail.

Is there a specific way to achieve this, or is it simply a known problem with this module?

    Thanks

I have had a similar problem getting this module to work. What’s worse is that there is no indication or error message of why it doesn’t work. It simply doesn’t do what it says it’s doing.

Specifically I’m trying to replace TV values across numerous documents. I’m ignoring some TVs and targeting a single container and all of its children. version 0963.

Anybody out there able to help us with this?

      thanks

I encountered exactly the same problem when trying to set TV values. Doc Manager closes with no errors but does not change anything:
        Update Completed
Update was completed successfully, with no errors.
I am using MODx Evolution RC1.

        Maybe anyone can help?

        Best regards,

        Stefan

Could you please provide more details on how the TVs are setup and your environment/document structure? Are they plain text TVs or file/image TVs etc.

If there is a problem, then I’m keen to get it sorted out for the Evo release (in fact, I’ve recently submitted a huge refactoring of the DocManager codebase for Evo) - I’ve never had a problem with the TVs in my local testing so I wonder if the problems are perhaps corner case issues that I haven’t tested for yet.

          Thanks smiley

            @garryn

            Thanks for your reply.

Here is some information about the server environment I am using:
            Apache2
            PHP 5
            MySQL 5
            Local installation
            ModX: Evo RC-1

I only have plan text TVs.

Please tell me if you need to know more details.

            Best regards,

            Stefan

I am having the same issues trying to update multiple TVs using the "Doc Manager".

Most importantly it overwrites existing values, even if you have added them to the ignore list. This could be quite a shock if you use it for the first time without testing and loose lots of data!

In testing it does not update TVs with a default value, or drop down TVs (i have only tried with TVs of Text and Dropdown)

I was trying to update a single TV dropdown value

Here is what i did :

              Doc Manager > Template Variables
              Choose Template
Enter TV values to be changed
Add comma separated list of TV fields to ignore (like this : 2, 7, 1, 4, 8 )
Add document id to change (only tested on single document)

The Result > All standard text field TVs get updated to either blank or the text you added to change. Drop down lists or TVs with a default value do not change.

              My document structure is :

              Home (template)
              Section (template)
              Source (template)

I am trying to change TVs on the Source template

              Heres my server configuration

              Modx 0.9.6.3

              MySQL 5.1.34

              Apache 2.2.8
              PHP 5.2.4

Let me know if you need more info

Just wanted to add that I am also having the same problem. My client needs this functionality, so I will be looking into the code. If anyone else has already started debugging, can you please post any relevant results?

                    I put a patch in JIRA @ http://svn.modxcms.com/jira/browse/ADDON-61.

There is still a problem when updating with a larger range of documents, but that seems to be semi-unrelated. With this patch you can update a small range like n*, but not n*,m*.

I’ve had a similar problem recently, my first experience with Doc Manager. Didn’t do squat.

After some digging in the javascript and various attempts to get a clue, I stumbled onto the fact that it seems to work just fine as long as IE8 is NOT in compatibility mode.

Awkwardly, modx periodically forces IE8 into compatibility mode, perhaps due to the provokation of an incompatible script, and so when developing I tend to cruise in compatibility mode in order to avoid the forced refresh that occurs when it trips up. So I had to manually switch into normal mode for other testing reasons before I noticed that the Doc Manager was able to function correctly.

Hopefully this will help some other people, because I can imagine many people are using IE8 and finding themselves knocking around in compatibilty mode all the time without a clue that it is actually crippling Doc Manager.

                      Cheers for your help guys.
