    Hello,

Does anyone know of a way to do paid membership (ie adding a web user) using paypal, without using the paid subscription aspects of foxycart?

I like foxy, but it seems overkill in this case - it supports paypal pro, so it needs the foxycart subscription plus $30 USD to enable Paypal Pro.

I’d like to do this using a basic paypal business account, but there isn’t a lot of budget to develop a custom subscription module. I was hoping treasure chest would support it but no!

    Thanks,

    Paul

Well, foxy is so easy to implement into any existing site it would be a good option for most small sellers looking to sell on the web...unless you’re a programmer and looking to develop your own system to emulate a foxycart-esque environment. wink Foxycart allows you to choose a payment method whether it be Authorize.net, PaypalPro, or Paypoint, etc. I thought the FoxyCart monthly fee prevented the individual seller from having to deal with individual transaction fees, but this is apparently not the case.

Paypalpro will charge you a monthly fee of $30, then about 2.9% + .30 per transaction.
Foxycart says this on one of their pages:

For what it’s worth, we at FoxyCart generally recommend CDG Commerce for most merchants in the US. PayPal’s Website Payments Pro is also a decent option, though the monthly fees are higher.

CDG is  a monthly fee of $10 and 2.25% per transaction, which is much lower in the long term.

I think you’re going to run into fees at any site, but I think Paypal is somewhat high, though I have no real e-merchant experience with payments and transactions etc. I would suggest looking into the different methods Foxy offers and their fees associated.

The reason for looking for a non-foxycart solution was because none of the payment options meet the budget.

This is an AU based business which only leaves Paypal Pro and eWAY as payment options (without incurring currency transaction costs as well as everything else), and neither of these fits - the setup fee for Paypal pro is excessive and the monthly fee is far higher than the US options.

Foxycart will support standard business Paypal in the future, so I need an interim non-foxycart solution.

What I am looking at right now is having Treasure Chest at least take the payment and accept the notification (with a bit of tweaking so I can associate payment to the user), and then further tweak it to add subscription dates to the user - perhaps using webloginpe as a user management system.

Still I would prefer something out of the box, and so if anyone has already invented this wheel, it would be great to hear from you.
