I suggested jquery, that and I have already seen everything Extjs does
done using jQuery et al (jqueryUI, jqueryTemplates, etc))

Using jQuery to achieve the exact same goal as ExtJS would be very difficult.
Like you’ve said, you’ve seen some plugins that individually do the same as the whole Ext package (grid with slickgrid, tree with jqtree, tabs with jqueryui, drag and drop with jqueryui + another plugin, etc...).
But there are no standard way to bind them together without hunting and hacking the core of the functions.
Each of them have their own coding style and API.

Ext provide a more cleaner structure from a developper perspective.
All the components can talk with each others easily with a documented and universal API.

I know how to use Ext and therefore, i am able to find my way quickly within MODExt.
Way more quickly than having to adapt myself to the coding style of each plugin provider if jquery was used.

We will not be moving to jQuery for the default manager UI. We will be staying with ExtJS for the foreseeable future.

What would be nice is to have a way to load sript a la Wordpress style, by precising registering script manually to avoid multiple library loading in the header.
This issue has been raised but seems not to go anywhere : http://bugs.modx.com/issues/1497

          @lossendae thanks for your reply.

I am not an expert on any of this but I would have to say that I found the Docs for YUI3 better for me, not knowing anything about any javascript frameworks or libaries.

I spent the day (joy of being retired) watching videos from the extjs conference to try to get my mind into extjs then downloaded the latest extjs4 beta unpacked same and went through Docs I still do not know where to start with extjs.

I did same a few weeks ago with YUI3 and was able to use same to get started. Changed existing template to include Reset Fonts Grids and Base css files and implemented wayfinder with YUI MenuNav Node plugin and an image slider with YUI Slideshow. It did take me a week to get totally working.
I am busy adding MODERNIZR for HTML5 looking at @smooth-graphics implementation

Reading some posts on yui3 and extjs the one thing that struck me was
YUI3 is more suitable to public facing websites
          extjs is better at apps

I in no way question the devs on their choice of js for the manager interface.

This is how I see things maybe I am just not seeing the full picture.

Are there any advantages or disadvantages using the YUI3 lazy loading of scripts within MODx?

            Hi,
I’m new to MODx but been working full-time with EXTjs for the past 1.5 years. I’m very impressed with the progress they made. EXTjs 4.0 is a big step forward again.

for MODx development I would like to point to a blog post with the migration layer in it.
            blog: http://www.sencha.com/blog/ext-js-3-to-4-migration/

the 2 movies in the blog post are really helpful and I already migrated 2 medium size projects from 3.3 to 4.0 it worked great.
