I have a site I am building that has over 60 SMF groups where users get to see only a handful of the available boards depending on their registration region (registration via Modx). I need to have similar functionality on the ModX side with similar groups but most particularly the registration via WebLoginPE should set the correct default group which matches the one in SMF when the registrations are synchronised
The fix in the end was appallingly simple. Delete or rename the table modx_webgroup_names and create a view with that name:
select `smf_membergroups`.`ID_GROUP` AS `id`,`smf_membergroups`.`groupName` AS `name` from `smf_membergroups`
And thats it. From then on SMF controls the webgroups not Modx. HOWEVER you should comment out the add and delete capability from manager/action/web_access_permissions.dynamic.php and maybe put some note about where to do the maintenance. Add does not work from Modx side via that view - and its not even needed.
