Your web host will be able to assist with getting the domains pointing to the right place, but you’ll also need to change the modx setup.
Off the top of my head, what you’ll need to do is:
- get mydomain.tv pointing to the folder where your modx site is installed (ask your web host)
- run the modx installer on the new domain in update mode to get update the config and file paths. You’ll need to re-upload the install folder to your server.
- update any instance of mydomain.ch to mydomain.tv in your .htaccess file
- add rewrite rules to your .htaccess file to redirect all incoming links to your old domain to the equivalent pages on the new domain
- set up domain forwarding to point mydomain.ch to mydomain.tv (ask your web host)
If your email address is changing too, you’ll also need to update any contact forms as well as the default manager/admin email address. Once that’s done, you’ll also need to consider updating Google Webmaster Tools, Analytics, etc.
Of course I might have missed something important here
Do you think you can manage with the above? Note that your site might be down for a little while doing it this way. If it’s critical to keep the site up it might be better to duplicate your site for the new domain, get that working, then sort out your redirects.
