Can you explain or upload a cap or image of what data types you are looking to show and how you want to display them. I think I know what you are looking for but more specifics would help.

        No problem,

I am trying to setup a blog on a custom mod x system. I am trying to use the following template:
        http://www.modxcms.com/blog-step-one.html

        Well the install instructions state:

"Create two new templates, Light and Light-post, and copy/paste the text in the included template.html files.

Create the four chunks using the text of the included chunk.html files.

Make sure the following snippets are installed:

        FlexSearchForm
        PageTrail
        DropMenu
        WebLogin
        NewsListing
        UserComments
        WebSignup
        WebChangePwd
        NewsPublisher

And the QuickEdit module and plugin."

It seems like I have every snippet except for Newslisting and Pagetrail.

I think setting up a blog would be easy if it weren’t for the customization that was done to the system before I got here. sad

Below is a list of the snippets I already have in my resources section:

        * uncategorized
o Breadcrumbs - 0.9d Configurable breadcrumb page trail navigation.
o CopyYears - will display older year - current year
o Ditto - 1.0.2 Summarizes and lists pages to create blogs, catalogs, PR archives, bio listings and more.
o documentEdited - outputs the last time the document was edited
o DropMenu - 1.0 Completely template-driven menu builder that’s simple and fast to configure.
o eForm - 1.4.3 Robust form parser/processor with validation, multiple sending options, chunk/page support for forms and reports, and file uploads.
o FirstChildRedirect - 1.0 Automatically redirects to the first child of a folder document.
o FlexSearchForm - a search form that is highly flexible in how it is presented.
o FlexSearchForm_old - a search form that is highly flexible in how it is presented.
o getPageInfo - This snippet returns the pagetitle of the current page’s parent.
        o HyperFlexSearchForm - HyperFlexSearchForm
o Jot - 1. User comments with moderation and email subscription.
o ListIndexer - 1.0 Shows the most recent documents, highly flexible.
o ListSiteMap - Dynamically generates the site map
o MemberCheck - 1.0 Selectively show chunks based on logged in Web User’ group memberships.
o NewsPublisher - 1.4 Publish news articles directly from the web.
o Personalize - 2.0 Basic personalization for web users.
        o UltimateParent - 1.2 - Gets the highest parent that isn’t 0.
        o UserComments
        o Wayfinder - 1.0.1 Builds site navigation
o WebChangePwd - 1.0 Web User Change Password Snippet.
o WebLogin - 1.0 Web User Login Snippet.
o WebSignup - 1.1 Web User Signup Snippet.

Are any of these interchangable? Please let me know.

        Thanks

First of all, grab latest 096 release and upgrade!

Use BreadCrumbs instead of PageTrail, its shipped with default package.

Use Ditto 2.0.3, which is complete rewrite of NewsListing and now defacto standard for listings in MODx. Ditto 2.0.2 is available within MODx 096 but there is a security improvement in Ditto 2.0.3 so grab the latest from MODx resources.

          Hope this helps.

            Thank you smiley

I will definitely try replacing those tags.

Questions... If I upgrade Mod x could some of our customized code be lost? Is upgrading as easy? Can I just replace old code with new code?

            Please excuse my newbie-ness

Do not replace your custom code at all unless you know what you are doing! You can manually install new snippets and upgrade older ones keeping separate copies, almost all snippets/plugins etc can be renamed in the manager, can be placed under any folder, you just need to alter the paths in snippet config code block, and ofcourse use the right name while calling snippet in templates etc. e.g. i have ditto 1.x, 2.x i created ditto102, ditto202, ditto203 snippets... so i can develop the new things on latest while keeping old ones working fine unless I get time to upgrade.

Create backups!, Upgrade is very easy, look for the guide in wiki.
