    Hey. If you think CNN, FOX and company are doing a terrible job of giving us news, you’re with a growing number of people. Top-down news structures should be augmented with a larger structure that is totally democratic and that allows participation.

    CMSs are about halfway towards creating such a system because they already allow collaboration in creating and organizing news and analysis by the readership. The missing half, needed in order to develop a democratic/participatory news reality is a distribution mechanism that filters and distributes stories (both those created by the readership and stories created by traditional news organizations). It will not be any harder to build this other half than it was to build the CMS half.
