That’s cool, but before I go any further, what is the licensing of SMF forum?
I think we can’t use the forum for commercial purposes. Is that true? I read it somewhere, but I’m not sure where I read it.
Any clarification to this will be great.
Thanks

I was under the assumption this was GPLed, and indeed it’s not.
The licence is here :

I am no expert, but it seems to me the restriction is about redistribution not commercial use.
One thing I don’t like is that they could change the license in the future... We’ll definitely need to have a GPL’ed forum module in the future to ensure that we won’t loose the ability to use the module without paying...

Well the good news is that the SMF API is GPL. This means that you can modify and redistribute it as long as it remains GPL. The sad news is that you can’t copy and paste SMF codes into it. You’ll have to create your own.
SMF will always be free, their license just prohibits forks (legally anyway); any distribution of the project must be done from them. They don’t care how much you hack or change it, as long as you’re not redistributing it.
SMF is a wonderful forum that scales well. Their API is GPL, so it can be included in Bridge products.

Ok, that’s good to know.
So far, I’m aiming for a light weight forum to be offered to my client, and I think SMF forum is just way too big for them to handle it. So I’ll look for another solution for now.
Thanks for the reply Ryan.

Hi,
"Only" one probleme with smf, it’s hard to translate because you have a lot of file to modify.
Idem to create a template.
