I see. So which would you recommend, using the Properties tab to set those two variables, and the user has to edit them there, or have them as variables in the snippet code, and the user has to edit them? Being more familiar with the latter, of course I naturally prefer it, but is it a good thing to hang on to what I’m accustomed to? I suppose it would be even better to have them passed in as arguments when calling the snippet; [[DocMan?public=1&admingroup=docman&usergroup=users]]
Hm. Can the properties tab take variables in the value field?
The properties tab is nothing more than a graphical way to pass snippet arguments to the snippet. You can consider these arguments as the default. The user can override these default arguments by passing arguments at runtime.
The property value
&name=CMS Name;string;MODx
is the same as
[[Snippet? &name=’MODx’]]
[[Snippet? &name=’MODx2’]] --> this overrides the &name property
The only difference is that the &name property value will always be available to the snippet even if it’s not passed at runtime:
[[Snippet]]? ---> the &name property will be available within the snippet as $name

All I can suggest at this time is that you try to run the query from the SQL window of phpmyadmin, or whatever mysql administration program you use, and see what the mysql error really is. I’ve run that on two different servers with no trouble, it is probably a table naming issue or something of the sort.
If I get around to it, I’ll look into nested categories, as well as files belonging to more than one category. I’m afraid it’s already gone far past what I needed it for, and I’ve got other things I have to do now. It’s Public Domain, anybody can do whatever they want to with it.

The site is in a state of severe confusion right now; part-way through a complete overhaul and upgrade other demands on my time became urgent. I’ve just got to schedule some time to it every few days, and get it back up to speed.

Ok, DocMan is now restored on
http://www.sottwell.com, log in as filemanager-filemanager to play with it. Had to make some fixes to the code to work with MODx TP3.2 changes. The new files (version 5) have been put in the Downloads forum.
The download section I was hosting was a temporary thing, until MODx got its own site set up, and was not kept up-to-date.

I’m having a most strange problem with the new install of DocMan on my site. It corrupts file downloads. I had it before, before I changed the templates and updated the site, and it worked fine. I checked the older version on a working client’s site, it works fine. I replaced the newer download.php file with the old one, it still corrupts the files. The files are fine if I FTP into the site and download the files with FTP. (so I know the files are getting uploaded OK). I shut down friendly URLs and removed the .htaccess file. Nothing I do is helping. Does anybody with more experience at this than I have any ideas what could be the problem?
I even created a file with the same code to download the file, and loaded it directly into the data folder and ran it, and the file downloaded just fine. I’m at my wit’s end.

Ok, I set up the same (version 5) version of the snippet on an older version of MODx (RC3) and it works just fine. Something in the latest document parsing is messing up the download.
I changed it so the download calls a separate .php file, passing it the filenames in the GET. Seems to be working OK now. As soon as I’ve tested it a couple more times, I’ll upload the new version.
Version 6, the fixed version, is now available in the Downloads forum.
The previous version is also available there for older versions of MODx.
