I am running an older MODx site (Version 0.9.6.1) on servers that utilize PHP 4.4.9. I would like to upgrade to PHP 5.1 (or greater) so that I can then make use of Revolution to develop some new sites. I can not risk bringing down the older site on my server however. Will my older MODx site cleanly tolerate an upgrade to the newer version of PHP? (I simply can not risk the possibility of bringing down the site.) Thanks for your input.
    • If you can’t risk the live site, then perhaps you should either do your Revo work on a local dev environment or get an inexpensive shared hosting plan that works well with Revo.

Thanks for the tip, Susan. Yes, I actually already did a lot of the dev work locally, via WAMP. The issues is this: I host all of my live sites on a shared server account (GoDaddy) that runs PHP version 4.4.9. I do have the option to upgrade the PHP version in order to support the Rev site i just developed locally. The fear in doing this, however, again, is that if I upgrade PHP out on the server, the older MODx sites currently running on PHP 4.4.9 will crash. Anyway, sounds like the safe best is to simply get a second hosting account and hold on to my current account for legacy sites running older versions of MODx and PHP.
