    MODx Version: 0.9.6.1B

While editing a local copy of another site (using XAMPP) in MODx manager I decided to check my personal (hosted) site since I haven’t looked at it in a while. Well, good thing I did because the GetParent snippet was causing a parse error. Error rectified my pages finally loaded, BUT... pieces of content from my local site were now in my personal site!! How the ##@$ could this happen? There are portions of my LOCAL template mixed in with my PERSONAL template! This is no FTP mishap, I was however logged into both managers at the same time. Unfortunately I can’t be certain of the order in which I accessed the two separate backends. Unfortunately I’m away from my backup so I guess my site will be down for a while...

Anyone else every have such a major bug? Not such a big deal on my low traffic site but I’m using MODx for some commercial deployment and now I’m a little scared.

No way MODx or a snippet is responsible for this IMHO... Seems to me like you messed up somewhere along the way... Keeping 2 manager opened is never a good idea tongue I have occasionally messy up sites like this !

        • Yes, I’ve done this a time or two, and learned to NEVER have two sites open at the same time. If I want to copy something from one site to another (a clever snippet or a certain complicated Wayfinder or Ditto call, for example) I’ll open one, copy what I want to a text editor, close it, then open the other one. Slightly less convenient, but a whole lot more convenient than having to say "oops..." and scramble for a backup.

Thank you for the replies. What is weird about this is I wasn’t even doing any copy/pasting between the two site managers, no exchange of info whatsoever. The local manager was open at the same time only for looking at my document trees. The only time I edited anything was to inspect my personal (remote) templates (with NO changes saved) and then look at my personal (remote) GetParent snippet to delete it. I would have chalked this up to my own stupid error except that I didn’t do any actions that could have inadvertently caused this. I will definitely only work on one site at time from now on. Any one else seen this happen?

I forgot to mention a rather key piece of information: both MODx sites use a database with the same name! Really shortsighted on my part, but the table prefix for both sites is the generic "modx_". Additionally both sites are "installed" at the root/base level (ie. http:://my-modx-site.com/).
              • I’ve had my suspicions about the javascript and the cookies being passed around. Browser caching is also something to consider; form data (like what gets used when you use the back button on a form page) and javascript caching can be separate issues from ordinary "page" caching. I’ve never gotten around to really looking at what’s in these cookies, but quite often I’ll find three or more cookies with the same name from the Manager for a given domain. Supposedly they will only be relevant for each domain, but sometimes I wonder just how good at keeping them separate a single browser instance having pages open from different domains really is.

You mean they are running on the exact same database on the same machine with different virtual host roots? You’ve confused me here. Otherwise, I still don’t see how anything other than human error can be attributed to edits being made on one site or the other
