I noticed that, if I try to upload *.bmp files with the fckeditor browser, I start getting a "this.DOMDocument has no properties" error. This happens when I am using a template variable of type "Image."
This was driving me crazy as the file browser ceased to work, so I looked into it some more and found that the /manager/media/browser/mcpuk/connectors folder is being moved to /assets/images and renamed to the name of the bitmap file.
Anyone have any suggestions?

That is indeed very odd. I would suspect somebody has been fiddling with your installation. Perhaps you should replace your /manager/media/browser folder, at the least. What version of MODx are you using?
