    Hi All,

Does anyone know of any educational or public service websites running on MODx? Any ideas on what modules might be most valuable to this type of application? Calendar/Events? Photo Gallery? School Blog/News Feed? I’ve got a meeting setup to get my kid’s school to upgrade to a MODx website. Any info on previous installs for this application would be great...

    Thanks!

Sure, lots of sites run MODx... a Drupal site, for example, usually requires a handful of "standard" modules to be useful, but I haven’t found that to be the case with MODx. What you need really depends on your individual requirements. I can’t imagine there’s a "School Site Template" that you can download and have everything you need. What are your requirements? If you can describe the things you’re looking for, the community can better advise you.

I have part of a school website running on Modx and hope to move the rest over at some time, but who knows when!

You can view the piece I have done here: olneyfriends.org/summit/ - it is an information and discussion area, has embedded videos from youtube, and feeds from facebook (via twitter) and from twitter.

I will be working on a news, calendar and gallery areas - but nothing up yet

Off the top of my head I used: wayfinder, getresources, quip, filelister, some custom php and javascript (jquery), and some borrowed (open source) javascript.

I don’t think I will need anything else to implement an events, and calendar page. Edit: Actually taglister might be useful - but I have not worked with it extensively yet.

Others that might be useful would be: taglister, getfeed, formit, googlesitemap

Personally I find that unless a ’module’ really does what you want, or is very flexible (such as wayfinder ) or straight forward (filelister) that is often quicker and cleaner to write my own php/javascript - YMMV

I believe this is a MODx site: http://www.pinetech.edu/. I’m sure there are many others.

That’s the site I have been trying to find! They use MODx Evolution with a good deal of custom coding to do everything they needed. If you look there is a post about it in the forums (which I haven’t been able to find for the life of me... Must be Monday right?)

Thanks everyone. These links to existing MODx educational sites is exactly what I was looking for. Since I’ve never built a site for a school specifically, I wanted to do a bit of research so I could take the lead a little when devising a project charter. Mark Hamstra is working on a Calendar/Events add-on (add-on, module, extra, plugin, all pretty much mean the same thing to me smiley I think that will be useful in addition to some of the ones mentioned here. If anyone finds any other school sites please add it to this thread...

              Cheers!
