Bug with HTML table cellpadding

i cant use cellpadding of a table inside the <table> tag. it doesn’t show any padding even though i use
<table width="550" border="0" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="0" bgcolor="#000000">

but when i use (using styles)
<table width="550" border="0" cellspacing="0" bgcolor="#000000 " style="padding:3px;">
it works fine.

can anyone give me a solution for this. because for some reasons, i cant use Styles inside <table> tag.

Have you actually specified any cells yet? The style padding in <table> tag will only give you padding around the edge of the whole table, not the cells themselves.

<td>Cell</td>

</tr>

i wanted a single cell table with cellpadding 3px and put another table inside it..

Then you’d need to do this:

<table width="550" border="0" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="0" bgcolor="#000000">
<tr>
<td>Cell</td>
</tr>
</table>

Without knowing exactly what you’re doing, why don’t you simply wrap the table in a div?

<div style="background-color: #000; padding: 3px; width: 550px;">
<table>
<tr>
<td>Cell</td>
<td>Cell</td>
<td>Cell</td>
</tr>
</table>
</div>

i tried 1st method,but modx didn’t show any paddings. and im not allowed to use <div> tags as mentioned in 2nd method.

i tried this several times. but didn’t work. it shows only inner table. cant see the outer table...

it is not working with firefox n chrome but IE.

Hmmm hard to say as I don’t know what else is involved with your page. Only other thing I can think of is if the page is linked to a reset css file then perhaps there’s a style collapsing the table.
