ThemeForest selectively adds things to their marketplace.
Someplace like the DNN snowcovered marketplace, the quality is about zero part of the time.
Not to offend anybody, but they can turn a free jQuery plugin in to an add on, quite the community there.
I guess since the DNN CMS framework is such a behemoth, people may need that sort of help, and be willing to pay.
Some form of acceptance process would make for a more quality marketplace, if that’s the approach taken.
MODx Revo 2.1 and done!
Speaking of concrete5, MODX core team - I just saw on concrete5’s site another possibility for you to monetize MODX. They offer training videos, or ’classes’, and it seems they charge almost $295 a pop. An idea perhaps...

Well,
don’t consider too much.
Just do it.
See what will happen next.
Then consider back.

MODx is great, but knowing how to use it well makes it perfect!

I guess there is quite the difference of opinions and it’s pretty common with a community our size. I firmly support commercial plugins and some of the reasons against it don’t make any sense to me. The quality of any addon is determined by the quality of the developer. If someone puts out lousy code that doesn’t work then it won’t take long for the community to know about it. The devs that put out great code will get followers and build a good base of support.
Sure most things can be done with MODX itself but I don’t have the time nor the desire to be playing around with snippets, chunks etc. to try and make something work. Give me a working product off the shelf and I’ll pay for it.

If splittingred, Dimmy or MODX LLC. released licensed versions
with support, additional COMMERCIAL features, I think it would be great!
But without basic open source code that the community could work and improve
on the HandyMan will be a commercial product.
That is not necessarily bad and MODX LLC let developers do that! WP is another story.

Just to clear up: you can use HandyMan for free (and I would really applaud any community involvement, and may even be able of supporting that with licenses, or even hard cash donations) but when you choose to buy a license you can get rid of the contribution notices (which many companies may want to do), and support development.
Still gotta dive in, but the code will probably be GPL and on github anyway. Just going to assume the good of people not to comment out license checking code. People who would go that far probably don’t care about development or updates anyway.
