Aims of new directories "assets/templates/manager/" and "assets/templates/help"

Hi, this is Nick from Tokyo, Japan.

We Japanese team is looking into a new Evo’s distribution from svn, and happend to find that Evolution package (Ver1.0.0) has a new directories,

"assets/templates/manager" and "assets/templates/help".

We guess that they would be used for changing a manager’s appearance and help documents, but still wondering what the aim of these directories are.

Does anyone let us know about that?

In legacy distributions, your custom help pages and custom manager templates were stored in /manager/media/style/theme and /manager/includes/help (I think). If you made customizations to those, and you were to upgrade later, you would have needed to remember to manually migrate those pages to your new installation, along with the config.inc.php file. For new upgrades with custom help pages or manager login/welcome customizations, they will need to be migrated to the new locations. This needs to be noted in the upgrade notes for Evo, so thanks for asking the question!

Now that they’re located in a single location, upgrades should be easier with your customizations located with your assets directory, which is likely to remain in place across upgrades.

(We’re considering doing the same thing for the config.inc.php file, and have it working in the lab so to speak, but that’s a much more critical component that third party add-ons sometimes reference so it needs to be left alone for now.)
