I’m sure it is nesseary.
MODx realy miss good catalogue/shopping cart system.
Here is some description of such system:
Glossary of terms:
- Item - product that front users will put to the cart. It have many сharacteristics such as price, description, size etc
- Category - a folder, where we will store our items. these folders have "(infinitely)hierarchical relationships (like Electronics/Household/Entertainment/Gaming)". Categories also have characteristics, for example, `manufacturer`, `made in`, `description`. Those characteristics are common for all items stored in category
- Field group - input fields for the characteristics. To enter characteristic in item or category, we need input field, for example, textarea or text input, RTE etc. We merge several fields in a group, so that we can associate the group to item or category.
- Catalogue - a folder for categories. We can have several catalogs in out web-site. For example, catalogue of products, or catalogue of employers, catalogue of clients etc
[li]Order - number of items, selected by front-end user with contact information.
Catalogue management:
Catalogue management - component, that allows administrator to create catalogues. When catalogue is created we shoud see it in menu. For example in `Componets`. Than we click Components->New_catalogue. Now we see a for that allows to create Items, Categories and Filed gropus.
Also we need a component, that will manage Orders. In this part we should see a contact information of person, who ordered it, ordered items, time etc. If order is new, in manager should be a notice about new order.
Catalogue output:
We don’t put catalogs to document tree, because items and categories is not a pages. Catalogue is something like database of a products, that we will store in out shop. And we use that database to display these products on pages of our site. So we need some components similar to Wayfinder, but with the different that it will scan categories and items of particular catalogue.
Cart
On pages, where items displayed we put a button `Add to shopping cart`.
When user clicks this button, web page sends AJAX request to cart connector, that puts information about item to SESSION or send in to brouser cookies.
And we also need some snippet, so that user could manage selected items and make an order of selected itmes.
This snippet we put to special page called `cart`.
P.S. sorry for my english. Some day I will learn it)
