AdvAlbum "0.0"

Hi people,

currently working on a new gallery module/plugin package for modx, it is up to 90% done and needs some testing because this is a more complex thingy, would be fine if someone could take a look at this. Offers easy to integrate image galleries over special TV’s, output is stylable over css and templates and should handle large and small amounts of images with support for jpg, gif and png. Includes lightbox, slimbox, and a selfmade horizontal mootools thumbnailscroller and a set of predefined default templates for direct usage.

create the folder "advalbum" under your modx installation in "assets/modules/" and upload the entire package content to it.

To install the entire package you need to install the module at first, that will also create the needed database tables, create a new module in modx and copy the modulecode from install_module.txt into the field "module code". Refresh your browser and start the module to automatically create the database tables. The complete module with database-tables can be uninstalled with the uninstall link within the module in the lower right corner.

Next install the plugin, create a new plugin and copy the code from install_plugin.txt into the field plugin code and save. Enable the plugin for the following system events:

Template Service Events: OnParseDocument/ OnWebPagePrerender
Documents: OnBeforeEmptyTrash / OnDocFormRender / OnDocFormSave

Creating image content:

Start the module, create a template variable, then create an album, upload images to that album, place the {g{yourtv}g} TV somewhere into your site-template or content and edit a document the site-template is assigned to and scroll down to the "AdvAlbum" tv-settings, select the newly created album there and save.

Note!: To upload images you need to have java installed on your computer from http://www.java.com since a flashbased upload-tool doesn’t support prescaling of images on clientside during upload which saves a lot of server-performance when uploading large images. The javaupload doesn’t support RAW-Jpeg images, so you need to convert such images before you upload them.

Are you sure you need the java? With all the very nifty javascript libraries it seems that there should be something available to fill in that gap.

Java is required for client-side resizing of the images prior to uploading them, so they get optimized before they get flung across the wire.

Well i tested with a P3 500 MHz and 512mb Webserver yesterday, works so far even with 100’s of images and also large images, as long as the pre-resize isn’t set higher than 800x600 for that machine when uploading images.

dev_cw is right, also thought it would be a great idea to render the images as a complete gallery html-output, with pagination, links, zoompage and such.

but this is a damn lot more of work, since this is also possible with javascript and / or css only and most people including my customers like those lightbox styled galleries
