The only advantage I am seeing is that the chunks could be in the file system as well, using

Depending on the size of your chunks this can be very profitable to have them stored in the file system.
Typing code in a good editor is generally more comfortable than typing code in the backend.
You also don’t have to export the database and later import it when editing layouts locally. You just "drag" the files with FTP when they’re ready.

you can use the [[includeFile snippet in chunks too. or directly in the template.

Good reasons, I use the FF addon "its all text" which brings all my code to Notepad++ in one click... very convenient...

I think that we need to move both the DB and the files every time we move a site...

Chuck: that is a good idea too... include the chunks in the manager or include them in the template.... mmm...

Yes, absolutely. But if your element contents are in files, you don’t need to move the DB to *update* the site -- just those files.

I changed the plugin’s code so that it can be called from a chunk. See:

In my case the plugin was named LoadTemplate (by analogy to the LoadDocument snippet) but if I remember it’s the same as the templateFromFile plugin. Original plugin author is heliotrope if my mind is correct.
