Installing revolution to manage multiple domains..

Doh!

Now it tells how in my book so I have someplace to refer to.

I wonder if there’s a way to make those easier to find. I’m pretty familiar with the Revo Manager (although I’m pretty dense sometimes).

I think we need a proper revolution forum in here....

I also have some questions about static resources, and documentation is all but non-existent:

do static resources have to be full html structures in and of themselves, or can they also take advantage of modx’s templating system (chunks, TVs, snippets)?

Static resources are just files on the filesystem. Currently the static resources technically just store meta data about the resource and a path to the file. Probably a great time to start a new topic in the MODx Next subforum for now. When Revo hits RC stage we’ll rework the forum structures a bit.

Just for clarification: does that mean that they aren’t processed by the parser at all before delivery to the browser?

Static Resources work just like regular Resources; they can have templates, tags are processed, etc. However, currently, this is limited by file size (i.e. files larger than about 1/3 or 1/2 the memory limit can only be sent directly to the browser. For instance, the current MODx Revolution distribution files on the download page are served as Static Resources, but since they represent binary files, no processing is needed on the content.

I took the "second method" outlined here.

1. I copied index.php, core.config.php and ht.access (i have url rewriting turned off in order to simplify the process) to a new subdirectory in my local host.

2. I changed the line in the new instance of index.php to

$modx->initialize('web2');

this corresponds with the name of my second context "web2".

3. trying to access the "new" domain, I get a 404 error.

Further, when I "Preview" the document from the manager, it launches the page under the original context, not under "web2", even though it resides under "web2" in the document tree.

I’d really love to move forward with testing on multiple domains, and I’m sure others would too. It is not clear (at my level of knowledge) how I should go about this, and the docs seem incomplete.

ATM, the preview feature is not working yet TBH; it’s dumb and has no idea what a context is (or even what friendly URLs are).

The biggest issue mentioned there though, is that this method is not working for me, and was confirmed by another user earlier in t e thread:

as I say above, I tried "method 2".

It’s working for me as described in that page and the other threads I’ve posted on the subject. I think you’ll have to be more specific about what isn’t working for you if I’m going to be able to help you with the specific problems you are having. The method you are using is completely dependent on your Apache virtual hosting configuration pointing to the new directory with the index.php.

if I follow the exact steps outlined on that page [ http://svn.modxcms.com/docs/display/revolution/Using+One+Gateway+Plugin+to+Manage+Multiple+Domains ], starting from "Alternatively...", I get 404 document not found.

I did this at work, on the latest version of xampp, default config, on windows XP. At home I am on mac using MAMP - I’ll try that too.

I don’t see anything on the linked to page about updating apache settings. on XAMPP, I am not creating additional virtual hosts, every "domain" is just localhost/domain1/ ; localhost/domain2/; etc.
