Folks, we put together a FUSE module that lets you edit MODx elements directly:
http://modxcms.com/modxfs-1603.html
For Unix users that have FUSE installed, this lets you mount MODx databases as a filesystem, and use your favorite PHP/HTML editor(s) (we’re using Komodo Edit) to edit your Chunks, Pages, Snippets, and Templates. DO NOT USE THIS on a production site! It seems to work OK for us, but we’re making backups every half hour of our work. It may very well corrupt or lose data you’re working on (and as we’ve fixed certain bugs, it’s blown away plenty of our stuff - this is risky work here).
We’d appreciate any and all bug reports - see the files INSTALL and BUGS in the package for more details.
You don’t realize how nice this is until you use Komodo Edit to edit a few snippets.
Something we forgot to put in the distribution package: Remember that MODx caches these elements, and we can’t clear that cache since we’re not actually talking to MODx itself. Keep a manager window open as you develop so you can clear the cache when you save files, if you want to test them right away.
