[buggy snippet] Front End Document Manager (FDM) v0.1b

Hey Soda i just installed FDM and when i go to the manager page it gives me this error below but all the files were copied to the assets folder in the root of the site. Any ideas I am using modx-0.9.6.2

Did anyone use FDM to delete Documents permanently?

I saw a routine in the code, but it’s tagged as highliy experimental, so I’m a little worried about using it.

Why would you need to directly delete a document permanently ?

You can always empty the trashcan later... I am always wary of letting end users nuke a document, more often than not it’s better to keep it for a while before permanent deletion.

I also beleive, emptying the trashcan every once in a while is safer, than letting frontend users delete things without a recovery option.

There are however circumstances, where it would be helpful.

Another option would be a timed delete, like say every one or two months - just to clean things up.
Can that be done automatically? It can, I know, but what would be a clean way to do it?

Any ideas?

In my latest app, let users un-publish there documents. I didnt want them to delete them in case the admin emptied the trash can.

If I wanted to allow users to really delete docs, I would:
- let users unpublish
- show all unpublished in a ’trash can’ with a button to really delete.
- then delete them.

Is there a way to delete the trashcan from the front-end, via snippet?

If you had a site with simple dates and events, which are stored as documents. Lets say 1500 entries a year with about 300 of them marked as deleted.

The machine runs for 2 or 3 years without emptying the trashcan. Would you just leave the 300 to 900 deleted docs in the db?
Would that slow things down?

Im sure you could find the API function and generate a cron job for it.

Might be nice to have a modx cron module handy to tidy up things like logs periodically... I know I have quite a bunch of modx sites and I don’t always remember to clean the logs which makes the DB dumps pretty big over time...

Sounds like a feature request to me. A cleanup routine would be nice to add to the index request like the one that checks to see if documents should be published/unpublished for DB cleanups or deleted documents purging.

Actually that’s already a feature request and apparently Revolution’s Message Registry will make this possible "easily" (check Jason’s answer to my request).
