This is really nice, but is there a way to use only a single thumbnail for a series of images? And is there a way to have on-the-fly thumbnail creation?

That’s not the way Highslide works, it’s designed to allow having multiple full size images open and dragging them around.
I’m sure the thumbnails could be generated on the fly by phpThumb or DirectResize etc.

EDIT You can remove the thumbnails and still have the full size images available!
I have a specific size for the content area of my website. Does this have the images "wrap" to the next line in this case?
The thumbnails are positioned by your layout/CSS.
The large images can be positioned to open where you want by using the top, right, bottom & left margin feature.
Remember they can be dragged anywhere in the browser window.
Very nice effect but you get a text menu that goes off the right side of the screen until all the images are fully loaded in IE7. It can take a while on a slow connection.
You might want to use JS to preload the images before displaying the page.

Yes. It also happens in FF, although FF at least wraps the menu so it doesn’t go off the right side. All the images appear fairly large with text under them, then the normal fisheye menu replaces them.
