File Download Snippet?

I’m looking for the following snippet, and I wanted to double-check that such a thing doesn’t already exist before writing one. So if you know of one, let me know.

• Outputs a single unstyled link
• Clicking on the link executes the snippet which uses passthru() to get and return a file that is outside of the public_html (or htdocs, www) folder
• The snippet only returns the file if the current user is in the right web group

My aim is to protect a file so it can only be downloaded by a specific group of web users, even if the link to the file is publically known.
