htaccess dead link

the editor of our fine publication decided to move some articles by copying and pasting into new articles and overwriting the original article with new content.

I need to send readers from mysite.com/featured/someguy.php to mysite.com/articles/someguy1.php

I’ve tried redirect and redirectmatch and both fail. any ideas?

Install the Redirector package; fiddling with htaccess rules not necessary.
