Need creating an IP.Converge module

Alright, so I am going to be attempting to create a IP.Converge module for MODx. I do need a few things to successfully accomplish this.

First off; How are passwords encrypted and stored to database? How are they compared(What functions)?

How are sessions instantiated? What functions call the creation of the session/cookie creation?

And anything else you think I may need

Is this for 1.0 (0.9.6.x) or for 2.0 Revolution?

I think I’ll be doing it on Revolution. It should be a bit better in the long run (as The migration step is Revo anyway). Either or, though.
I may or may not use IP.Converge. I may try to implement a bridge between the two. (I have a few ideas on this already).

For Revo,

Take a look at the _initSession() function in core/model/modx/modx.class.php

Passwords are encoded using md5. You might be able to use or subclass the modUser class and let it handle the password stuff for you. Look at core/model/modx/moduser.class.php.

Actually. This is really not even needed. IPB3 can do authentication via external db. This allows you to enter : DB/User/Pass/Table Name(and prefix)/username field and password field. Also allows to specify the type of encryption. For this choose, MD5. Make sure you set this to active, Then disable registration.

This is a GREAT method of doing this.

The only thing it does not solve is Single Sign On. I will work on a method for this soon.

ALSO make sure you to do the following to prevent out of sync-ness..

Modify the theme User control panel section for Change password to display a message/link to your change pass page. This is not synched if the user changes pass in the panel on forums. Also make sure you change the Header and either link to your registration page or remove the Registration Part all together. For an example of this check out: http://efragtv.com/forum
