Ditto dropping styles

I’m all for pragmatism, but

instead of removing the <pre> tag, I found some css code to work around it:

sounds like a really bad idea, verging on the insane or immoral.
Somewhere in your document or in the template used for your news page, or (most unlikely) some obscure place in the innards of your site, you have something like
and the only real solution is to find it and get rid of the unwanted code. CSS is not sticking plaster or a brush to sweep problems under the carpet. Use logic, go one step at a time, test your theories and eventually you will be able to give yourself a kick up the backside with a mix of relief and embarrassment.

So then why would Quickedit be adding a <pre> tag in the first place? I thought there must be some reason it got put in there, so maybe I’d be better off leaving it? Although it did concern me some that the code above states it’s not valid...

QuickEdit is not putting in any <pre> tags. Possibly if you copy/pasted HTML code into a Rich Text Editor’s field (such as TinyMCE) it may have enclosed it in the <pre> tags presuming you wanted to display exactly what you inserted.

Thanks for the reply. I generally know better than that, but I did catch one instance where I copied the snippet call (which can go into the rich text) but it had some html with it. On the one that I caught myself doing that, I already deleted it and repasted in the html section. I’ll double-check all the snippet calls related to this to see if I pasted html along with any others...

OK, that worked! The snippet call didn’t have any outside html, but when I re-pasted it in the html section, the <pre> tag is gone. Thank you!

So, should snippet calls never be in the rich text section? It seemed like they’d worked there up until now...

It’s kind of iffy, especially if it’s a long snippet call (lots of parameters). I usually have pages with such snippet calls either not use the RTE, put the snippet call in a chunk (more overhead) or use an external configuration file for the snippet (although not all of them have that feature, but it’s very simple to add it if they don’t).
