add users in DB

I need to insert all users again to my DB.
I have a excel file that contains all usernames and passwords.
But if I insert (manually, not via modx) a user to my DB in phpmyadmin
forexample: daan - 1234
I can not login with these...
When i add this with modx i can see both username and password in the same table where i inserted the example manually.
Now I CAN login with the username i made in modx but NOT with that one I inserted manually...
I really can’t find the problem here
please help, i need to insert a lot of users :p

MODx uses md5() function to encode passwords.
and md5(1234) = 81dc9bdb52d04dc20036dbd8313ed055

oh, forgot to say, i was using sha1, so it has to be md5?
