Place holders in snippet?

How do i use this placeholder [*pagetitle*] in a snippet?
is it possible?

but then how do i assign this to its own variable?

would it be $pagetitle = $modx->getPlaceholder(’pagetitle’); ???

I have never thought of using getPlacehoder to get a document’s placeholders. Will need to trythat someday. I always use the documentObject api:

[*pagetitle*] is a field tag, not a placeholder tag and these are indeed accessible via the documentObject, but not from the placeholder functions, unless you assign it to a placeholder, i.e. $modx->setPlaceholder(’pagetitle’, $modx->documentObject[’pagetitle’]), which would be redundant and wasteful.

Sorry if my answer (deleted to save face and avoid confusing others ) confused you. I answered the question in the message subject without stopping to think that pagetitle wasn’t a placeholder.
