To create the kind of patch rthrash is talking about, you need an SVN client. I use TortoiseSVN and it’s as simple as "checking out" the file from the MODx SVN site, making your changes, right-clicking on the file and selecting "create patch" from the TSVN menu. That creates the patch file which is a "diff" of the specific changes.
