First you need to set the database information in the variables:
$host = "localhost"
$database = "mydb"
$uid = "admin"
$pwd = "dbpassword"
Now the new DBAPI can be called to connect to the new database:
$db = new DBAPI($host,$database, $uid,$pwd);
Next you specify the fields and table name. So for example if you want to select all fields "*" in the table "mytable" you would use:
$db->select('*','mytable');
