I’ve added a ’chunk’ column type to the DataGrid, this acts exactly like the template column type except that it read its template data from a chunk. This allows for easier and more elaborate customization of the grid with forms, checkboxes etc.

I’ve also found some discrepancies between the docs and the code. In particular the Image, Hyperlink, Checkbox and Radio column types listed in the docs http://modxcms.com/datagrid-widget.html are not supported in code but instead there is an undocumented Template column type.

Also the DataGrid widget UI shows Row Select and Row Highlight parameters, I could not find any documentation for these nor do they seem to be used anywhere in the code. Am I missing something here?

The original developer of Template Variables in MODx was the author of the docs and the widgets, but he has moved on to other endeavors in general and does not support these things anymore. I personally do not ever use Widgets, and we’re working on making them user-definable for the next major release (0.9.7), so that you can do whatever you want with the widgets without having to hack into the core of MODx itself.

So, if you want these improvements in DataGrid to be pushed back into the 0.9.6.x series of releases, feel free to provide the modified code in a patch or zip and we’ll review it for inclusion in the next 0.9.6.x bug fix release.

As for the documentation, well, that needs to be addressed as well.

Making them user-definable sounds like a great idea and much more in line with the rest of modx.

The modified code was attached to my first post, I’d be happy if it were included in the next 0.9.6.x release.
