I was thinking of filing this as a bug but I’d like some opinions on this before doing that.
every time you save a page, a script is executed. I’m not exactly sure what it does (I think it’s the mootools.js library), probably refresh the tree or something. While it does work fine in most cases, I have some issues with that:
- it slows down. It’s only a second but when I have to edit hundreds of pages a day, that costs time. Besides, it takes longer when you work longer (like after a couple of hours it takes like 5 seconds), which is Firefox’s fault but is still annoying.
- it has errors. Firebug shows me a lot of errors after a while.
- it crashes or hangs quite a lot. I don’t think that has to do with any bugs, just because when you work fast and use it a lot, firefox or IE miss some parts sometimes. It takes FF 20 seconds to figure that out and only then it asks you whether you want to abort it. In the meantime FF hangs completely.
That last problem also occurs on my website itself, where the mootools.js library is also included by quickedit (so it only happens to me as a manager but still annoying especially when I’m presenting it to people here and it crashes my browser
).
Can somebody explain to me why it’s needed? Secondly, can’t we get rid of it? There are probably better ways to do cleanup stuff than userside scripting.
