Blog posts, to be "hidden from menus" or not?

Trying to setup the blog features in modx.... running across something odd I havn’t found an answer for:

Adding a latest posts to my homepage using:

[[!getResources? 
  &parents=`2`
  &hideContainers=`1`
  &tpl=`latestPostsTpl`
  &limit=`5`
  &sortby=`publishedon`
]]

Only appears to work if blog posts are NOT hidden from menus. However they have to be for wayfinder to show the "blog" category in it’s top level menu and not every post!

So what is correct? Hidden or not hidden? if it’s hidden then how is the getResources tag supposed to work, if it is not hidden, then what about wayfinder?

Hide them from the menu and add the following to your call.

&showHidden=`true`
