    Hi All
Could someone please kindly clarify the correct setup for friendly urls.
    First issue…
In the wikimodx site http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/Friendly_URLs_Guide I find the following …
    1. You will find a ht.access named file at the root of the MODx folder. That file contains the url rewrite settings. You will also find another one in /manager folder.
    2. Rename both of these files to .htaccess
I confirm that I do have an ht.access file in the Modx root and another in the /manager folder, however the one in the modx root contains the full lines of script but the one in my /manager folder has only one line of script i.e. RewriteEngine Off
    a. Should this be set to RewriteEngine On ? (or is there a reason it is Off?)
    b. Should this ht.access file in /manager also contain the entire full lines of script like the other? (i.e. be an exact copy?)
    c. Or do I leave its content as is and just rename to .htaccess ?

    Second issue…
    In the modx documentation http://rtfm.modx.com/display/revolution20/Using+Friendly+URLs
    it mentions...
    1. change the DOMAINNAME to your domain name in lowercase.
    For me: shawnwilkerson
    2. change the TLD to the com, net, org, info, whatever you have
    For me: com

However this is NOT mentioned in the wikimodx page but furthermore, all the lines of script in the ht.access file where this change could apply are actually commented and seem to only apply to forcing the www. prefix.

    a. Please clarify why this is mentioned in the documentation ?
    b. Or is it implying I SHOULD force www. in the URLs ?

If you would direct a simple answer to the questions in bold I’d me most grateful.
    THANKING YOU

Okay I’m refining my question and moving to Newbie FAQ. I totally understand your reasons for setting that up and think its a good idea.

        2. Rename both of these files to .htaccess
You do not want rewrite rules applied to the Manager’s pages. Newer versions of MODx have the ht.access file contain a line to exclude /assets and /manager from the rewrite rules, so the one in the /manager folder isn’t really necessary in that case.

If you want to force www.domain.com to domain.com or vice verse, then edit the lines to reflect your domain and uncomment them. Otherwise ignore (or delete) them. As far as what you "should" do, there are those who believe www. is the ultimate in HTTP evil. It’s your choice.

It’s important to pay attention, though, as you can be logged in to www.domain.com/manager, but if you go to domain.com/page.html to view the front-end you will NOT be logged in (likewise vice verse); they are considered two different domains to the session cookies.

Newbie FAQ sounds good. Might help me solve a lot of issues. Where is it? (Shouldn’t there be big pointers to it from the forum?)

              Hi Thomas
If you enter "General Modx Discussions" from the forum subject headings, its listed as a post.
You can also find it by the search (top right of tab bar).
But like you pointed out I can’t see a direct link anywhere.

The Newbie FAQ board is supposed to be for a collection of questions that developers are frequently asked, along with our answers, not for new users to ask their questions.

The Newbie FAQ board is ..... not for new users to ask their questions.

OK. Though I don’t quite understand why it’s called Newbie FAQ in that case.

My problem is: I have asked a very simple question about Simple Search that has not been answered .... it was on the Search board, here: http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,60425.0.html Please can you tell me, where can I post to get an answer? It would be much appreciated.
