I do not want to be insensitive to your sleepless nights BUT... In my opinion, QM+3 kept someone up late nights "fixing" something that was not broken.

I dearly wish you had not invested yourselves this radical change.

Section A: Why I do not like it
Section B: Wish you had invested in the complete opposite direction - True in-context editing.
    Section C: My Questions

Section A: Why I do not like it

    1. I do not like that the Edit button has been moved to top of the page, and no longer in the context of the TV container. The Edit capabilities on the "Preview Site Document Resource" WAS a simple "in-context" tool for non-techie Users. It was simple. It allowed the User to place content with a point of reference in the page placement.

    2. I do not like that the rarely used but convenient QuickEdit menu on the Preview has been removed. If I wanted all manager items that you are loading with QM+3, why would I edit from the "Preview Site Document Resource" EVER? It makes this feature completely redundant... I could just collapse the menus in manager.

    3. What if I place more than 1 editable TV on the template?? What point of reference do new users have now to know which edit button to use for each section on the page? Wouldn’t buttons in line with context continue to be intuitive for new users - especially when demonstrating MODx pizazz to a potential new customer.

Section B: Wish you had invested in the complete opposite direction - True in-context editing.

When I chose MODx in 2006, the only feature missing that I desired was for the end user to have the ability to edit their content in-line, in-context on the page on which they would be changing or adding content. This spatial feature would give non-coding, non-designers a simple connection of their content and its position on the page. It seems that you have made, what looks to this non-developer, a permanent move in the opposite direction.

    Section C: My Questions

    1. I installed Evolution 1.0.0 as a new install. Can I disable the QM+3 plugin, place the Quickedit files in Modules, install the the QuickEdit plugin and use it instead of the QM+3?

    2. Will there ever be a plugin for in-line editing for use with Preview Resource?

    Please say yes!

      Section C:

1 - Since there are many change in MODx, QE will not work out of the box. Feel free to port it over.

2 - Maybe if a developper feel the same as you, or if you devellop it and release it for the communauty.

We have something like that on the way, see discussion-link bloX/Xedit in my signature

          Bruno17,

Now that is what I’m talking about! I never imagined such flexibility, but that is magnificent! It will have the potential of advanced features, but I will be able to tailor it to be simple for the end user.

The MODx team have the most intense focus on ease of use for the end user of all CMS I have reviewed (I have reviewed nearly all of them.) That is why MODx is the best PLUS they are brilliant developers so it is amazing for us providers. Their only weakness has been the in-line editing and when you are finished with your project... well, I can only shake my head in awe of it all.

I wish I were a developer so that I could help you but, alas, I am but a lowly designer.

I’ll be watching for your brilliant work to be ready for testing.

Never even think that! I can’t design an exit from a paper bag, and often sincerely regret that lack.

QuickManager was developed for MODx. 0.9.6.3 as an independent add-on, alternative for QuickEdit. It’s originally targeted especially for ManagerManager plugin users and those who need adding documents from front-end. In those areas QuickEdit has serious limitations.

I think QuickEdit was removed from MODx 1.0.0 and replaced by QuickManager because QuickEdit simply won’t work properly with 1.0.0 and nobody is willing to fix it since it’s development has been halted for many years.

Quick Edit actually should still work with Evo, but the development has ceased and we wanted everything in a single plugin going forward. Grab the 0963 copy available online and install it from there.

Thanks everyone! I successfully ported QuickEdit into MODx 1.0.0 and everything works perfectly. I had some trouble at the end with a Parse Error but when I completed the last detail, it worked fine.

After you port everything over and set the Plugin and Module configurations, you have to remember to go back to go back to Resources Elements>Plugins>QuickEdit, Click on the Configuration Tab and choose "QuickEdit" from the drop-down list for "Import Module Shared Perameters".

                  Thanks again for all responses.

MODx developers, your work is very appreciated. Thank you for all you do to develope this amazing software. I am not just palavering or being cute when I say that MODX is the most beautiful and useful arrangement of 1s and Zeroes in the universe.

Please do not stop on your work on bloX/Edit. You have a real winner there. While waiting, and if I was a programer, I would figure out how to have a menu in QuickEdit to call chunks containing templates containing additional TVs with just a click of a button. That way my end users could place them inline for columns. TinyMCE is so clunky and writes such horrible html - especially when changes are made from the editor itself.

                  I’ll be watching you.
