Redirect on first child

Hello all,

I think my question is quite basic but I didn’t see how to solve it?

I have several folders which are menus in my website. I want to see them in my menu but when a user select them I don’t want to display their content, they don’t have, I just want to display/redirect on their first child (in fact in the first page of the folder).

Is there an option to do that? Or how will you do that?

Use [!FirstChildRedirect!] on the parent page.

sorry for using this old thread but it looks like you people here know this stuff

I tried to use the FirstChildRedirect snippet on a multilingual site (german, english) with the following alias and id structure:

de (1, Container)
|-- startseite (3)
|-- seite2 (4)
en (2, Container)
|-- home (5)
|-- page2 (6)

I use friendly URLs.

I tried to add [[FirstChildRedirect]] to the content of the containers with id 1 and 2. If i call http://myurl/en it does not redirect to http://myurl/en/home (and still shows the site title of the container with id 2). Am I wrong or should it redirect?

I tried many things like disabling caching with [!FirstChildRedirect!] or passing the id with [!FirstChildRedirect? &docid=`2`!] (for en). I even tried to disable rich text content in the containers to get rid of the sourrounding <p></p> tags.
It still does not work.

Can anyone help? I’m really stuck...

I use
- Evolution 1.0.0
- FirstChildRedirect 2.2 (Even if it says version 2.1 in the comment of the source , tried it with 1.0 first)

On both containers should redirect to the correct pages.
If you don’t have :
Tools => Configuration => Friendly URL’s => Use friendly alias path: Yes
then the url’s won’t be :
www.your-domain.com/en/home
www.your-domain.com/de/startseite
but this :
www.your-domain.com/home
www.your-domain.com/startseite

Was turned on already and
www.your-domain.com/en/home and
www.your-domain.com/de/startseite
works.

But
www.your-domain.com/en and
www.your-domain.com/de
does not redirect for me

Any other idea?

This is how I do it:

Create a new template called First Child Redirect.
Enter [!FirstChildRedirect!] (note that this is not cached)
Assign First Child Redirect to your EN DE documents

I found my error:

I had no in my template. So the content to use the FirstChildRedirect snippet was not called. Very stupid...
It’s logic now that it could not work, but may happen to other people in an early phase of setting up the CMS. I first built the navigation and ignored the content. I even wanted to test my multilanguage concept before caring for content and so on...

Anyway, now it works!

No [*content*] in the template would severely hamper any snippet being called in the content area of a document
