I’m trying to setup an image TV that will default to a specific value and can be over-ridden by setting the tv at the resource level by browsing to an image.
Can’t get the default to work. I’ve now updated to Revolution 2.0.7-pl (traditional)and it’s the same behavior.
It’s working fine when I browse and select an image for the tv for the resource page. However, I can’t seem to get a default value to ever output for the tv when I don’t specifically select an image at the resource level.
In the TV settings, the type is set to image. There is a "default value" field that appears below which I am using to enter the path to a default image.
Output type is set to "default".
In the template, I am calling the tv like this:
<img src="[[*mo-featured-vendor-image]]" width="220" height="143" />
My understanding is that if the tv is not set at the resource level, the tv should contain whatever string I populate in the default field. Instead, the tv is just empty so that it renders: <img src="" width="220" height="143" /> in the code.
Is this a bug? Like I said if I select an image for the tv at the resource level it works fine and replaces the tv with the path the image.
If this sounds like a bug I can provide more details.
I’ve got 2.07-pl, and this works like a champ for me. For my default, I just put in images/blah.jpg, and my images folder is right off the root of the site. I assume you double-checked that the image exists, and that your path is right, no?
At this point, I would vote for either a typo in the name of the TV in the template, or maybe it doesn’t work with dashes? (I’ve never used dashes in a TV).
As they always say, describe your system for more precise help. If you’re on a Windows server, I’m out.
samba, Thanks for confirming that the feature works for you.
I checked into some more and this is what I’ve found.
The feature works a little differently than I was expecting...
1. Set a default image path in the tv
2. Change to a custom image via the tv in the document (file browser).
Now let’s say you want to revert to the default image again...
3. To remove the custom image, you clear the image path inside the document tv. This leaves a blank tv field.
I was expecting that after saving the document, the tv default would be used again. Now it’s clear that once you clear the custom path, there will be no image at all. The default only populates the tv field one time. If you change to a custom image, you have to paste the default image path in manually to use it again.
Not sure if that is intentional or not but I was confused.
My friend, I replicated your problem! I set up the default, it showed up in the template fine, I changed to something else, that was fine. I deleted the something else, hoping to get back the default, no dice.
I believe we’ve found a bug.
If you are removing the value of the TV inside the resource, deleting will keep it empty.
TO get the default value, hover over the TV label, u will see "reset" icon, click on it and default value will be loaded.
