But the point is neither to circumvent licenses (it’s really cheap software anyway), nor is it to fully understand what the code means. The goal is simply to be able to extract the code the designer application has generated and rearrange it according to the MODx tree.

Fair point. I am just trying to get this round my head with respect to Wayfinder template chunks - will those come into play or not? What would that portend for flexibility, etc? It’s Friday so my brain is very slow; please forgive the questions!

      Hi Ryan,

I think that all but two snippets are homemade. The one that makes me the most nervous is that I do the DHTML menu based on the Wayfinder method of crawling the document tree, and I can see that that code does a lot of tricks that I would assume would break under Revo. Are you able to use the current Wayfinder under Revo?

Besides that, the current web development has been all about writing snippets, and very few pages are complete in any substantial way. Therefore, I could manually convert all pages to the new snippet wrapper characters in 15 minutes.

The question really is, I presume that the database and API has changed, but how stable is the code as far as fundamental changes goes? Is the core and database stuff relatively unchanging from now on?

        HI Kongondo,

That’s the beauty, it doesn’t use all those templates, it’s all done for you. You simply design the menu you want in a GUI designer, the menu can have WAY more features than it can with Wayfinder, and you can control these by sending commands through embedded strings in document fields, which allows you to micromanage which parts are used, i.e. separator/disabled menu/category header/submenu etc. There is no messing with chunks at all. I simply use the Wayfinder code to get an array of the menu tree, because it’s a clever crawler that allows great control of which menu items are included -- no point in writing that again from scratch.

There’s a relatively stable port...though it has a few bugs that are being sorted out. If you install Revo, you can get it via the transport package.

            Thanks Per,

I totally get it now! (I think). Only problem/issue I foresee is that does it degrade gracefully if javascript is disabled?

            cheers/k

btw: I am always curious to find out how new members found out about MODx, the portals/systems they used before, why they switched, etc, etc. So, if you have time..... wink thanks.
